This is the recipe for Muanj’a moto à l’ancienne, a meal from Cameroon, here prepared for 4 people. Muanj’a moto is the Duala name for a small fish found in.


  • 8 glasses of muanj’a moto (small fritures)
  • 1 handful of njansan
  • 2 pèbès
  • 2 grains of bobimbis
  • leaves of kotimanjo or mint or of basil
  • 2 big red chilis
  • 1 big onion
  • 1 garlic cloves
  • Salt
  • ½  litre of palm oil


  • Carefully wash the muanj’a moto (if you get the average or big then cut off the heads and empty them)
  • Put the fish in the sauce pan in which it will be prepared
  • Grill the pèbès and the bobimbis and dry crush them
  • Crush the njansan, onion, garlic and chilli
  • Put all the condiments thus crush in the sauce pan containing the fish and add salt
  • Add oil, stir delicately with a spatula until the contents are homogenous
  • Add a leaf of the chosen herb (previously well washed) in the saucepan
  • Close the saucepan and cook on low hear for 20 to 30 mn, until the water has evaporated  and the fish is soft.
  • Serve with miòndòs, macabos, yam or plantains.
